Farhan Akhtar EXPRESSES DISAPPOINTMENT On Gully Boy Dropping Out Of Oscars- EXCLUSIVE
Disappointed alright, but Farhan Akhtar also says that he is grateful that they got a chance to compete in the Oscars. Must say that Farhan is a sport- he well knows that you win some and lose some
Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy, India’s official entry in the Best Foreign Language category at the 92nd Academy Awards, finds itself out of the Oscars race. The shortlist has been made and the next round of voting will not have the Ranveer Singh-Alia Bhatt starrer.
The ten films that have been shortlisted are: The Painted Bird (Czech Republic), Truth and Justice (Estonia), Les Misérables (France), Those Who Remained (Hungary), Honeyland (North Macedonia), Corpus Christi (Poland), Beanpole (Russia), Atlantics (Senegal), Parasite (South Korea) and Pain & Glory (Spain).
We understand the mood in the Akhtar family. Dukh toh zaroor hoga. We at SpotboyE.com are also disappointed. Ditto for Ranveer, Alia, Mahesh Bhatt, Soni Razdan and Shaheen. The same goes for the crew and all the remaining members of the cast, and of course, for the co-producer Ritesh Sidhwani as well.
Gully Boy producer and Zoya's brother, Farhan Akhtar, when contacted, made no bones about his dejection. Farhan told SpotboyE.com EXCLUSIVELY, "We are disappointed that Gully Boy didn't make it to the short list but grateful that we had the opportunity to compete. Best of luck to the films that have made it through."
We also tried contacting Soni Razdan but unfortunately could not reach her. Razdan was naturally elated when Gully Boy was chosen. She had spoken to us at length, then. For those who've come in late, we reproduce her INTERVIEW below:
Well, we respect Farhan's honesty. And, we bet Soni is a sport and will take this in her stride. Keeping it behind us, let us say 'The show must go on'. We have had some, in fact, many, wonderful films from the Bhatt and Akhtar stables. We bet that there are more in the offing.
